US politician who accused American Jews of goading US into war with Iraq resigns

US House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi asked Rep. Jim Moran Friday to step down from his elected post after comments he made last week suggesting Jewish American groups were goading the US into a war against Iraq.
"I have taken this action because Congressman Moran's irresponsible remarks were a serious mistake," Pelosi said. "As I said earlier this week, his comments were not only inappropriate, they were offensive and have no place in the Democratic Party," Fox News reported.
Moran made these comments last week: "If it were not for the strong support of the Jewish community for this war with Iraq we would not be doing this. ... The leaders of the Jewish community are influential enough that they could change the direction of where this is going and I think they should."
The remarks sparked a fury among local leaders and the Jewish community, with several calling for his resignation. On Wednesday, six Democratic House members called on Moran not to seek re-election in 2004, saying that if he did, they would not be able to support him.
For his part, Moran has apologized several times for the remarks, saying he was trying to explain the influence of all religious groups.
"It's just my ineptitude in not being able to think faster to be able to flesh out the position I was trying to express," he told Fox News.
On Friday, Moran said he would step down from "as a way to demonstrate acceptance of my responsibility for insensitive remarks I recently made."
"I will continue to reach out to the Jewish community and others who were offended by my remarks," he said. "Most importantly, I will strive to learn from my mistakes and listen to the concerns of my constituents," reports Fox News.

Rabbi Stanley: Yes, I can prove him to be wrong. The Jewish lobby is strong but not strong enough to push America into a war with anyone. Otherwise the Palestinians would've been obliterated long ago. It is anti-Semites who give more power to Jews then they really have. Sure, Jews do hold a certain amount of power in the press and so forth, but there are other races who wield much more power i.e. Arabs. The Saudis can make life much more difficult for the average American as we are now seeing with the gas hikes. If the Jews stop the media, we just wont see any new Spielberg movies for a while.
To answer the second part of your question...
Yes it is worse to criticize the Jews then any other race. G-d was clear in
Zec 2:8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.
He also says of the Jewish people in
Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
These verses may sound racist to the modern Western ear, but it still stands nonetheless. I’m not saying we shouldn’t speak out when Israel does something wrong, but we must be very careful and be sure we are on the right side of G-d.
